  • #BetaPipol A decision from the disciplinary committee of CAF on Wednesday May 17, disqualified Gabon from the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Panthers were accused of age fraud. It was discovered that one of their players, Floriss Djave is above the age limit.

An investigation into the case was opened after Gabon’s qualification match against Cameroon on March 25. Following their elimination, the Cameroon Football Federation filed a complaint, indicating that one of the players fielded by Gabon during the match was over-aged.

Reports indicate that “an error was found in the CAF competitions management system, concerning the player’s age”. CAF immediately called for its rectification.

The African football governing body said even if it was an error, it is still subject to a sanction as stipulated by article 44 of the U23 AFCON regulations.

In a statement, CAF said the case has been submitted before the organizing committee of the tournament to replace Gabon.

The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) has said they will appeal the decision taken by CAF.
